What Is Wellness

So What is Wellness? We hear about this word all the time. It is in the news, in magazines, in grocery stores, and you hear it in conversations at work. Everyone wants it, but what does this word mean?

Well the definition of Wellness is:

  1. the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.
  2. an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating disease.

As you can see, even though there is a definition for wellness it is actually quite vague in getting a true grip on what it is. But that is okay, perhaps it doesn't need to be clearly defined, rather just understood and interpreted to an individuals personal feeling on what wellness means to them.

In order for someone to understand personally what wellness means to them it may be best to understand what wellness is not. Wellness is not just about being symptom or illness free. While everyone can agree absence from illness is a component of being healthy it doesn't however indicate anything about your state of well being. Wellness doesn't come from a pill, it is not found in a pharmacy, nor is it a result of surgically removing body parts.

Wellness is a direct result of your lifestyle and the daily choices you make. If someone wants to achieve wellness, they have a personal responsibility to themselves and their families to put the right ingredients into their life to contribute to a state of optimal well being. Some of the essential wellness ingredients include: proper sleep & nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, controlling risk factors such as tobacco, alcohol and drugs and having a health & wellness team including a Chiropractor, a Registered Massage Therapist, an Acupuncturist and a Naturopathic Doctor.

Since science has proven "90% of all chronic disease is related to lifestyle," how you live your life and the choices you make will determine whether or not you see Wellness in your life. The secret isn't healthcare but rather it is about healthy and consistent self care. You need to take responsibility for your own personal well being. The purpose of Active Health & Wellness Clinic is to help you make those right choices and help you life that Active & Healthy lifestyle you deserve. Our practitioners are Wellness teachers to help you be..........
